The stunning collapse of Afghanistan to Taliban forces over the weekend, and the terror and danger that its people are now experiencing is gut-wrenching to watch. In times like these, when there are no simple answers and the stakes couldn't be higher, it is important that our leaders, and we, remember that God is our "stronghold." In Him, there is no defeat that cannot be turned around. The Bible says, "You, Lord, are a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know Your name trust You, O Lord, because You have never deserted those who seek Your help." Prayer is of utmost importance now because first, it works and lifts up those in need. But secondly, prayer reconnects each of us with our God, our stronghold in times of trouble -- and that is something we all need each and every day. Today, lift up our leaders, military, and all those in Afghanistan in prayer for safety, security, wisdom and strength from the Lord.

"You, Lord, are a stronghold for the oppressed,

a stronghold in times of trouble.

Those who know Your name trust You, O Lord,

because You have never deserted those who seek Your help." -- Psalm 9:9-10
