In recent years, there has been rampant speculation about the end times the Bible prophesies online, and what current events could mean what. Wild theorizing, especially by those not grounded to sound biblical teaching in faith, has the effect of raising the temperature and anxiety of Bible-believing Christians. But end time prophesies are not intended to have this effect! Jesus gave John in Revelation insight into the end so that the Church would have hope, not fear, in what is to come. John encouraged his audience in 1 John of the hope inherent to believers regarding end times, even though we do yet not know the exact nature of what is to come nor exact timing. He said, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.” Today, if you are feeling anxious about all that is going on the world, remember that Jesus has already overcome it and has promised to come back for those who believe he is their Lord and Savior. While circumstances may ebb and flow in this world, and suffering is nearly guaranteed as part of the human condition, have faith that what is now will not always be. Jesus is coming back— look forward to that day and be ready for it!
