Faith is powerful but the challenging thing about it is that it entirely depends on us — our own thoughts and beliefs and the conviction with which we hold them. Do we believe or are we absolutely convinced? Can something shake our faith or is it unshakable? Our level of faith in Jesus changes nothing about him — Jesus is the all powerful redeemer and savior whether we are convinced or not. Our level of faith only changes Jesus in our own lives. There is an interesting story from the Book of Luke where in a crowd, a woman touches Jesus’ cloak and is healed. It reads, “...As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” What is interesting is that the crowds were said to be almost crushing Jesus — meaning Jesus was being touched, jostled, and grabbed by countless people. Yet, the masses were not immediately healed of their ailments. Only this one woman, who had approached Jesus in full faith knowing in her heart that even just touching his clothes would heal her, was healed immediately. Jesus explained why, saying, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.” What we can take from this is that many will seek Jesus and many will want to be around him, but Jesus heals those who have unshakable faith and are convinced that he is Lord and savior. Today, approach Jesus in full faith, trusting that he is who he says he is.
