If you’ve ever been on LinkedIn, you know that “connections” are ranked in levels. First connections are people you’re directly connected with and know; second connections are people that your connections are connected with but you aren’t, yet; and so on. We often call these “friends of friends” in real life. In John, Jesus says, “You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” Jesus called us his friends — his first connections, and with that relationship comes something amazing: a “mutual connection” and thereby a relationship with God. There is an infinite amount of love, understanding, peace, and grace waiting for us when we seek God through Jesus. Today, if you are feeling far from God, seek Jesus because in friendship with him, we can know our Father.

“You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” — John 15: 14-15
