What do we give our attention to during each day? There are countless things in today’s world that compete for our attention, and after they gain our attention, they compete for influence. Knowing when to turn away our attention from such things centers on knowing Jesus. When we are in personal relationship with Jesus, we know his words, we know his heart, and we know what is and is not of him. Paul wrote to the Galatians, “Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods…Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may have zeal for them.” When we do not know the Lord, we will not know the things that are not from him. When we do not know God — not just know of him or know about him, but really know Him— we will be slaves to those who are not Him. Today, if you are struggling to identify what in your life is good for you and bad for you, start with pursuing a deeper relationship with Jesus.
